Arizona Attorney General & Arizona Department of Education:
Please Stop TUSD Cover-Ups of Assaults on Child Victims & Create a Student Injury Reporting System
Assaults against child victims within TUSD have been repeatedly investigated by our local KGUN9 news, the AZ Daily Star, and other media. Much evidence, including a principal’s testimony, shows that TUSD’s administration has pressured schools to conceal such assaults. Despite widespread concern about these assaults and cover-ups, the Board and Superintendent have taken no systematic action to protect TUSD’s teachers and child victims. Consequently, bullying and disciplinary problems continue to plague the district, with no serious solutions in sight. TUSD only reacts to put out fires, until media attention goes away.
This petition is for gathering the support and signatures of parents, students, educators, administrators, community members, and more to send to the Arizona Attorney General & Arizona Department of Education along with the attached letter. In this letter we will ask for the following steps that can and should be made, steps that would ensure better protection for these child victims.
We ask that,
1. The Attorney General investigate
a. district-wide failures of reporting of assaults of child victims within TUSD schools, as has been exposed through extensive media coverage (i.e. KGUN9 media) and as is required by A.R.S. 13-3620
b. whether TUSD is in full compliance with A.R.S 15-341.A.30, which requires strong measures against bullying,
c. whether TUSD is in full compliance with A.R.S 15-841.A, which protects teachers’ rights to remove disruptive students.
d. whether TUSD is in full compliance with A.R.S 15-841.H, concerning the expulsion or reassignment of students who threaten physical injury to students or staff, or damage to property.
2. The Attorney General make their investigative report available to Tucson law enforcement agencies, TUSD, Arizona Department of Education, and the public before the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
3. The Arizona Department of Education use this information to create an online “Student Injury Reporting System” by the start of the 2017-2018 school year so that data can be collected from all school districts in Arizona and used to establish accountability for the safety of children and to further track, research, and ultimately reduce the frequency and severity of assaults against child victims.
Please sign this petition NOW and send to at least 10 other people, asking the same. Please also post to all social media accounts. Our children, their safety, their physical, emotional, and psychological health are too important to not fight for this. Furthermore, the deterioration of TUSD has a large negative effect on the entire Tucson community, our reputation, our economy, our morale, and more.
Please also check out the website www.arizonachildrensafety.com which has been created to show how easy it is to build an online Student Injury Reporting System. Though the form is not active, we will keep it accessible by all so as to live as a testament to the positive and realistic change that can be made to better help, support, and protect child victims within our Arizona schools. We only hope that this form will be replaced with the true reporting system that we owe to child victims sooner than later.
