We Delivered Our Petition!

Sep 30, 2015 — We have some very exciting news to share with you! Last Thursday, we went to the U.S. State Department to deliver over 135,000 Change.org petition signatures to Ambassador Russell, U.S. Ambassador-At-Large for Global Women’s Issues. The delivery took place at the first ever Women and Foreign Policy convening, which focused on ending early and forced marriage.

In her speech the Ambassador talked about our petition in the context of civil society’s role in helping support U.S. efforts to address the issue of child marriage. She went on to thank our film’s outreach efforts and stated: “Thanks to their support and the work of so many of you in this room, we plan to launch our Adolescent Girl Strategy later this fall and we look forward to working with each and every one of you to carry it forward.” You can watch the video here: http://www.state.gov/s/gwi/events/endearlyforcedmarriage/index.htm

We could not be more excited to see this strategy delivered and look forward to continuing to support the work that the State Department is doing to help end child marriage. A big thanks to our petition partners Global Fund for Women, Change.org, Equality Now, Ms Magazine, and The Girls Not Brides U.S. Coalition.

Thanks to your support we’ve already been able to accelerate the release of the Adolescent Girls Strategy, and will be releasing DIFRET in the U.S. on October 23rd. Please continue sharing the campaign with your family and friends and encourage them to stand up for girls around the world.

Thank you,

The DIFRET team
